Running Linux on a multiprocessor system
Intel and AMD are racing to provide hardware and software that will use multiple processors. Intel recently acquired Cilk Arts to get access to their multicore software technology.
I'm currently running SETI@Home on a 8-way Intel Core i7 cpu. The machine is roughly 10x as fast at this kind of processing as a mid-level machine purchased just 18 months ago.
As amazing as the multicore CPUs is, the memory bandwidth of the newer Intel socket (called LGA 1366) is truly amazing.

Project IMARA - using GNU/Linux to cross the digital divide
The Edubuntu project is helping with the IMARA project, hosted at MIT.
IMARA seeks to help the digital divide by distributing Open Source
technologies to underserved communities. It is nice to see
MIT supporting the expansion of the Gnu/Linux technologies.

Fedora Core 1 vs. 2
Fedora Core 1 is the standard distribution we are using.
Fedora Core 2 has been out since May, but there are issues with Windows XP booting after installing Core 2 on dual-boot systems, which don't have a documented fix yet.
So we will distribute Fedore Core 1 and make the update available on a CD. - Ralph
